Mind Set

With this post, I want to dive much deeper! Is the reality you think you wake up to, in fact real? Some say that there is a lot more at hand than what meets the eye… or your mind. I am not sure how many of you are into quantum mechanics or quantum theory, but I find this world of science profoundly interesting! I do not claim to have a high level of understand of quantum mechanics/theory by any means in this blog. I am just expressing my fascination with the endless possibility of our interpretation of reality, or the illusion of reality.

Descartes was very close when he said, “I think, therefore I am.” The idea is that your conscious and reality are very closely entangled. In a show that I recently watched, it was explained that our brains are weak in the sense that it filters out unnecessary information and therefore your perception is full of holes, so to speak, of the world around you. The example they gave is when someone is watching a magician. The brain concentrates on the hand the magician directs you too, therefore you missed what he was doing with the other hand.
“The idea that everything we know is merely a construction of our minds is investigated in the episode of the Science Channel program "Through the Wormhole," hosted by Morgan Freeman. "What is real?" Freeman asks in the show. "How can we be certain that the universe around us actually exists? And how can we know that the world we see matches what anyone else experiences? For example, money, in reality, consists of pieces of paper, yet those papers represent something much more valuable. The pieces of paper have the power of life and death, Freeman says — but they wouldn't be worth anything if people didn't believe in their power. Money is fiction, but it's useful fiction. (http://www.livescience.com/38234-is-reality-real-or-not.html)”
I still believe that your mind set has a lot to do with the way you perceive the world around you. For example, if you tend to be more of a positive person, you find the good in everything and live a more positive life style. But, if you are more on the negative side of the scale, you will see the bad in everything. It is like the old adage, is your glass half full (positive), or half empty (negative). Optimistic people tend to live longer, healthier, more successful lives, Sharot said in the program “Through the Wormhole”, and the act of positive thinking can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. "If you think you're more likely to get promoted, you're more likely to put in more effort and work long hours," Sharot said. Therefore, you are more likely to get that promotion.
A good book to read about positive thinking and attraction is “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. Not saying I agree with everything that was stated, but is a very interesting concept. I feel that there is a little more to it than just positive thinking and attraction, there has to be some action still on your part.

Introduction to Reality

This is an introduction to what will be discussed in this blog. There are no right or wrong answers, but to open your mind to other possibilities. Help remove the limitations that have been incorporated by society or your own perception.
To start of with, is reality perceived? What true reality means, depends on whom you ask. Here is an example for you, some say that the Holocaust did not happen (using this as an example only, and this does not convey my views on this particular event), despite a multitude of evidence. This is a factual, documented event, and therefore you cannot dispute it. But, this event can be interpreted differently based on whom you ask.
Another, more simple example would be, there is a shoe lying on the floor of the living room. There are 3 people sitting in the living room, they all have different levels of attention to their environment. If you were to ask each of them where, color, how it was placed (i.e. upside down) or if they noticed it at all, you would get very different answers. But… there was a shoe lying on the floor in the living room! Everyone interprets their environment differently based on many things. Some of those factors that help you interpret information are your life experiences, level of interest, level of involvement, etc.
The truths I feel are perceived, is a little more personal. I was born into a blue-collar family. Do I feel I am living a life of mediocrity? Absolutely not! I perceive my life to be great, full of love and life! I am not hungry or unclothed; all of my necessities are fulfilled. Others may not perceive it that way. Everyone has their own perception of what is pretty, the right amount of money to have, brand of clothing to wear, etc. And they are entitled to that, but may not be right for everyone else’s reality.
I believe that some truths are set by our society and these are the ones that limit us from progress.

In this blog, I would like to explore and open the mind up to other possibilities of other realities. And, I am not referring to the sort of hocus pocus variety.
